The Eyes Of Strangers

Most see things, through their own eyes;
evaluating circumstances and dangers;
many of us would be stricken by surprise;
seeing ourselves in the eyes of strangers.

When we’re young; we can do anything;
or, at least, that’s what we think;
like eagles we feel ourselves taking wing;
with our mind and body, in sync.

There is no mountain; we cannot climb;
nor valley, we cannot traverse;
we are the prodigals of the sublime;
before it’s better; it gets worse.

As I’ve aged; life became more complex;
nothing seems to go right;
most of my responses, are sheer reflex;
as sure as day follows night.

I have some difficulty recalling a face;
names have become much worse;
sharing thoughts; requires God’s grace;
for lost memories; I often thirst.

Struggling to survive in this environment;
I must continue to work, part time;
a bankruptcy diminished my retirement;
survival defines my paradigm.

Tho I still see things, through my own eyes;
aware of all strategic dangers;
I wish I could hide, or dress in disguise;
when seen by the eyes of strangers.
