Yesterday’s Memories
I long for a future; made up of the past;
I’ve little interest in tomorrow;
past memories; are all that will last;
when joy exceeded sorrow.
Those memories of past, have no rival;
slowly fading, as I grow old;
I need those thoughts for survival;
those memories of pure gold.
Yesterday was the time of my dreams;
no barriers stood in my way;
yesterday; I became a man of means;
oh how I dream of yesterday.
Yesterday, I enjoyed much success;
the future seemed bright, ahead;
tomorrow came; bringing only duress;
in another tomorrow; I’ll be dead.
Time is the metronome of a lifetime;
each second; the beat of a drum;
ebbing and flowing; a rhythm sublime;
every life is a pendulum.
And so, I long to turn back life’s pages;
life holds little, for me, today;
reaching, to grasp the wisdom of sages;
I long to return to yesterday.
Yesterday was the best time of my life;
the future seemed bright, ahead;
I felt deep passion and the love of a wife;
but, yesterday’s memories are dead.
