The Dog-Eat-Dog World
I awaken in a world of adverse competition;
laced with universal corruption;
the love of God; replaced with ambition;
the image of a volcanic eruption.
Daily, I can feel such pressures within;
feeling the intense pains of age;
sometimes, I don’t know where to begin;
while turning to life’s next page.
Life has become just a game, we play;
learning to enjoy the competition;
win or lose; it’s just one more today;
living in the human condition.
War has become another game we play;
it’s a game that no one can win;
each side fights; just to see another day;
division is the ultimate sin.
Each of us shares guilt in life’s divisions;
whether we’re rich or poor;
love must guide all of life’s decisions;
else; what are we fighting for.
Demons look upon us; beaming with pride;
believing they’re certain to win;
they’re not under our skin; but, living inside;
for they are the authors of sin.
Still, life goes on, with adverse competition;
with our hateful banners unfurled;
sharing corruption in the human condition;
living in the dog-eat-dog world.
