When Nobody’s Watching
Most of us take pride, in who we are;
and, in everything that we do;
with others watching; we are the star;
one who always comes through.
We’re at our best; when lights are bright;
and many people are there;
when nobody’s watching; late at night;
it seems, we no longer care.
Most only care about gaining acclaim;
expecting all others to step aside;
their only thought, is of personal gain;
their greatest achievement; pride.
When nobody’s watching; they don’t care;
they disappear, like a cloud;
when lights are out; they’re never there;
they only perform for a crowd;
The arrogant and proud, are the worst;
life is their own personal stage;
for the bright lights; most of them thirst;
their names on a newspaper page.
The Master sadly looks down and grieves;
at this world’s pathetic condition;
God turns his eyes from all; that he sees;
at all that pride and ambition.
God sees it all; both darkness and light;
the truths; that most are dodging;
the meek struggling to make wrongs, right;
taking note; when nobody’s watching.
