Useless Is; As Useless Does
As I’ve grown old; I’ve become insignificant;
I’’m not the man; I once was;
no longer feeling like a full time participant;
useless is; as useless does.
If I were able; I would drop to my knees;
praying to the Father, above;
no longer getting up and down as I please;
all I can do, now; is to love.
Arthritis has taken both hips and knees;
rotator cuff tears got each shoulder;
no longer, can I walk, or run, with ease;
a body becomes useless; when older.
Sleep apnea has taken my ability to sleep;
each night; my sleep is interrupted;
feeling sorrows, from others, I often weep;
and my link to humanity, disrupted.
When young, I had a business of my own;
but success wasn’t meant to be;
I propped it up with a short term loan;
eventually leading to bankruptcy.
Pride made me stay in business too long;
I had no place else to go;
my house; repossessed; sold for a song;
my future, melted like snow.
I’ve nothing left to do; but tell my story;
I am left feeling useless, because;
short term success rarely leads to glory;
useless is; as useless does.
