The Apple Polishers

Many people, today, love to curry favor;
expecting something in return;
a benefit, a job, or something they savor;
when will apple polishers learn.

It started by bringing an apple to school;
especially in its growing season;
tho it seemed innocent; not violating a rule;
to gain favor was always the reason.

The freshly picked apple; polished to shine;
was a cheap; but most tasty gift;
you’d have thought it a bottle of fine wine;
tho its giver, brought taste and thrift.

The apple polishers had learned the truth;
one, that all, had come to believe;
in the essence of time, the apple was proof;
most who give; expect to receive.

Apple polishers had founded corruption;
and, corrupt, they became; to the core;
then, they learned by power of deduction;
with little, they could get much more.

Apple polishers had invented the bribe;
testing its application on others;
the reaction of man, became a diatribe;
about cheating sisters and brothers.

Most found where their bread was buttered;
but professed, in God, they’d abide;
God knew when their prayers were uttered;
their “apple” had a worm inside;
