I’m An Enigma

I am the wind; soothing your face;
in the midst of sweltering heat;
I am the love, you long to embrace;
the stranger, you long to meet.

I am your enemy, that you most fear;
hiding, round every corner;
I am the voice; whispering in your ear;
every funeral’s silent mourner.

I kiss you at night; while you sleep;
and whisper when you’re uneasy;
I am the hug, you feel when you weep;
I calm your spirit; when queasy.

I am the child, you carry to bed;
the orphan, without a home;
I am the hungry; that must be fed;
the old man, living alone.

I am the puzzle; unable to be solved;
a mystery; I’ll always remain;
in all of creation; I was involved;
and you, dear one; the same.

In the beginning; we were there together;
all a mix; a part of the same brew;
each of us; all birds of the same feather;
yet; I became me; you became you.

I’m an enigma; and so are you;
together through all that strife;
all created, to become brand new;
I’m the enigma called life.
