Escaping Myself

Much of every lifetime is spent,
living it, one day at a time;
we own nothing; we only rent;
paupers; of our own design.

Often, we think, we’re in control;
can find our own solution;
God is the Master of every soul;
destiny is merely illusion.

We feel we’re in a physical world;
working to get ahead;
instead; reality is a scroll, unfurled;
a dream; soon to be dead.

Some feel their life is out of control;
believing control lies within;
God is the conscience of every soul;
by him; all thoughts begin.

Often we try to run away from God;
such thoughts are a huge mistake;
we’re created as two peas in a pod;
faith; a tether, we must not break.

Tho we think we’ll escape God’s wrath;
he looks down, sadly from above;
blindly we go down the wrong path;
we shall never escape God’s love.

Leaving God in my rear-view mirror;
is putting his love on a shelf;
opening my heart to hate and fear;
as though, escaping myself.
