Comeuppance
I’ve seen much in life; I just don’t understand;
evil people getting by with everything;
since all must live by the Master’s command;
what consequence does evil bring?
We’re told that virtue is its own reward;
and that only the good die young;
why can’t evil just fall on his sword;
and only the arrogant succumb?
Is there no justice in this physical realm;
no atonement for what evil has done;
the worst of the worst sit at earth’s helm;
by the inmates, the prison is run.
Evil is the subtlety interacting with good;
residing within one and all;
truth and love become misunderstood;
evil is primed for a fall.
The evil, within all, deserves punishment;
when will the faithful ever learn?
We’re all of us prisoners of banishment;
so punishment is not our concern.
We long for comeuppance for our enemies;
those whose evil makes God cry;
instead, we all need to drop to our knees;
over the beam that exists in each eye.
No man is good; not even just one;
none; deserving of special favor;
even the meek, must first succumb;
comeuppance isn’t something to savor.
