An Accomplished Man
If I had finished; all I’d begun;
I’d be an accomplished man;
faithful, until the setting sun;
doing, whatever I can.
If only I’d done; all I’d planned;
I’d helped others; along the way;
tomorrow’d be at my command;
each day better than yesterday.
Why are my dreams, out of reach;
all of those best-laid plans;
all those lessons, I could teach;
turned into sinking sands?
Why do my failures, litter my path;
when others manage to succeed;
what have I done to incur God’s wrath;
can’t my supply, meet my need?
Could it be, my plans are convoluted;
have I just been overreaching;
or, are all my problems deeply rooted;
what lesson is my Lord teaching?
Perhaps God’s goals differ from mine;
maybe his plans are more altruistic;
no one can do; what they can’t define;
maybe my goals are too simplistic.
I must learn to trust only God, above;
having ultimate faith in his plan;
to be successful; I must learn to love;
to become an accomplished man.
