A Damned Nuisance

When I was young; I was a dreamer;
dreaming of what I’d become;
as I grew older; I became a schemer;
though not a successful one.

I looked for ways to become a success;
you can’t be; what you can’t define;
my ups and downs caused much duress;
and my life was running out of time.

The older, I became; the less, I grew;
I started to long for the past;
the more I had learned; the less I knew;
success wasn’t meant to last.

I turned down jobs; I should have accepted;
for I was smart; but not wise;
I accepted chances; I ought have rejected;
seeing only blue skies.

I failed the ones; who I loved the most;
but, not because I didn’t try;
bankruptcy made my life burned toast;
now, I am waiting to die.

I had always worked to do my best;
others corrupted my path;
I’d started my business; a noble quest;
but evil got the last laugh.

When very young, I was a visionary;
I’d been a model of translucence;
as time passed; I became contrary;
now old; I’m a damned nuisance.
