Yesterday’s Heroes

This world is a kingdom for winners;
for losers, it holds no space;
whether they be saints or sinners;
none can win, in second place.

Most heroes lie in the graves of history;
what lasting purpose did they serve;
all victories are shrouded in mystery;
what power gave heroes their nerve?

Today, we live for the sound of applause;
even, accomplished by deceit;
in victory;winner and loser, both pause;
crowns belong at the Master’s feet.

This world lies embroiled in subtle war;
division rules the day;
evil seems in charge of keeping score;
and evil usually gets his way.

Many are heroes; who barely get by;
truth governing their heart;
the real victims work; not cry;
as logic becomes torn apart.

Nobility belongs in a distant yesterday;
where heroes sacrificed for others;
victims are crowned in a modern today;
dividing all sisters and brothers.

Divide and conquer has become the goal;
with heroes gone; victims all hide;
armies of hate, seek to conquer our soul;
they only win; when losers decide.
