Why is happiness an unreachable star;
where do all the flaws begin;
why must there be a near and far;
and why is there fat and thin?

Why cannot happiness remain supreme;
why must tragedies begin;
can’t we just live the life of our dream;
must sorrows always butt in?

Why is a bully standing on a corner;
waiting for a victim to walk by;
and why must each become a mourner;
is life’s requirement, we cry?

Why is it that love often turns sour;
and success, turns into failure;
doesn’t the Master have all power;
does success offer little allure.

Why cannot all children feel love;
experiencing nothing but joy?
Does God lack power, from above;
to protect each girl and boy?

When will we see nobility in charge;
when will this bread of life leaven?
We must, sincerely, our vision, enlarge;
the earth is the dank cellar to heaven

Why can’t we all have a happy ending;
for all of destiny is simply your call?
When we pass; we’ll see heaven descending;
and it will have been worth it all.
