Victory Is Only A Season

We often scream and shout over victory;
though not understanding the reason;
we think it’s what life always must be;
but, victory is only a season.

For there is a time to laugh and shout;
but there is also a time to cry;
there is much in life to think about;
we ignore there’s a time to die.

Our thoughts revel in times of success;
we think that’s what we deserve;
then, comes our sorrows and duress;
forgetting we’re born to serve.

If everything in life were peaches and cream;
boredom would become our season;
a great part of life, is our ability to dream;
even our failures have reason.

And yet, we gravitate toward only success;
we celebrate touchdowns and applause;
shying away from tragedies and distress;
our thoughts of death, question cause.

Purpose is the great unanswered question;
held by the Master in reserve;
resistant to our most stubborn objection;
all were created to serve.

We all were created to love and serve;
it’s not ours to question the reason;
God, alone, knows what we deserve;
our victory is only a season.
