Unrequited Love
When young; we referred to it as a crush;
feelings of love toward another;
we kept it secret; but tended to blush;
in the presence of a potential lover.
Usually, it was said to be merely infatuation;
our heart and mind were confused;
shy and embarrassed; we enjoyed flirtation;
fearing our egos be bruised.
Something quite unusual is going on;
perhaps it is love that we feel;
triggered by memories of a special song;
made life become surreal.
Today I’ve become most acutely aware;
those thoughts of a crush were lies;
I’ve always been fearful of saying I care;
that fear; was love in disguise.
Yet; though my thoughts made me excited;
my love; I dare not express;
in fear that my love was unrequited;
my feelings; I couldn’t confess.
Throughout life; we fear the unknown;
preferring a well known path;
even willing to live our lives alone;
rather than hear others laugh.
Love is the construct of a universal mind;
in love; none can be divided;
evil and hate shall be left behind;
God’s love is never unrequited.
