Two ships in the night is what we were;
though passing; aware of each other;
with thoughts of love; our menu de jour;
such secret passions, we’d discover.

Each of us thought of our life alone;
unaware our thoughts were matched;
dreaming the other would share a home;
and a private conspiracy, each hatched.

Dreams of joy, filled each of our minds;
each coyly looking the other way;
each amazed how much bliss defines;
while wasted dreams, make up our day.

Neither spoke a single word;
embarrassment was our menu’s shroud;
only thoughts, by each other was heard;
fear prohibiting, we speak them aloud.

Tension mounted as we almost touch;
a mere moment; and it would be gone;
a dream of a lifetime, I sought so much;
without which; loneliness lives on.

Suddenly, silently, the moment had passed;
neither of us had uttered a solitary word;
a love that for each; a lifetime would last;
now gone; and only silence was heard.

Two ships in the night is what we were;
now passed, and opportunity is gone;
with thoughts of love; our memory de jour;
and loneliness continues to live on.
