Two Lips

Today I was wondering; why two lips;
I was just thinking; for fun;
is it because to chew; two better equips;
since two are better than one?

It took me on a long journey of thought;
wondering what lips were symbolic of;
within my mind; a picture was brought;
of course; two lips; a picture of love.

They are symbolic of a lover’s kiss;
triggering thoughts of love;
bringing memory of what I most miss;
what I most often dream of.

But how could we chew; lacking a mouth;
with our food idly, lying within;
all of our food, might simply spill out;
without lips to hold it all in.

Then, there is also lips’ purpose in speech;
forming all the words we say;
how would we communicate and teach;
without our lips to guide the way.

Two lips are a metaphor of a deeper truth;
we speak with both mind and tongue;
for all those in denial; demanding proof;
from thoughts; speech becomes.

Voices emanate from lips and tongue;
for, sound is their primary role;
thoughts are where, all comes from;
they are whispers from the soul.
