I have memories from many years ago;
sitting watching a motion picture;
buying candy to eat, during the show;
that candy, a weekly fixture.

However, I didn’t like the candy’s taste;
but, its box had a small toy, within;
it was merely a trinket; what a waste;
for the toy, I’d simply dig in.

The “toys” were trinkets; nothing but junk;
not anything that I’d ever keep;
trinkets are but memories, stored in a trunk;
their small cost, was much too steep,

I don’t have any of those trinkets left;
not even a single one;
yet, from their absence I feel no bereft;
their use, long since done.

But, trinkets are what all life is about;
living to accumulate wealth.
Trinkets and money, garner us clout;
we proceed, gaining by stealth.

Everything physical, is merely a trinket;
waiting to fade away, tomorrow.
Unless it’s living water and you drink it;
all trinkets, only bring sorrow.

God understands our trinket compunctions;
and gave us love, to take their place;
once we’re cured of all our dysfunctions;
all shall live in God’s saving grace.
