Today I Lost A Friend

Today I lost a very special friend;
we shall no longer meet anymore;
a friend, on whom, I could depend;
death came and closed the door.

He was, by no means, a perfect man;
then, of course, neither am I;
a short time ago; our friendship began;
and now, I must say, “Goodbye.”

We were very different; in so many ways;
we couldn’t have been friends in the past;
once, started talking; he’d go on for days;
a great store of knowledge; he’d amassed.

We went to the same college; a half century ago;
but, had never encountered each other;
we each lived our lives that taught us to grow;
in a few years; he became like a brother.

No doubt, in my mind, God put us together;
tho neither of us, thought it would be;
bound in a friendship that would last forever;
granting us new eyes; to see.

Perhaps, we each saw ourselves in the other;
past failures weighed both of us down;
it seems appropriate he’d become like a brother;
we both wore the face of a clown.

His failures have now vanished in God’s sight;
tho I still have failures of my own;
angels have now led my friend, to the Light;
now at peace; my friend has gone home.
