The Unkindest Cut Of All

What is it that brings thoughts to a boil;
placing our backs against the wall;
what feels like a stab; from sabre or foil;
what’s the unkindest cut of all?

What thrusts from life; cause the most pain;
threatening that evil succeeds;
how can societal civility long remain;
when evil threatens our needs?

Many; long battled the demons of pride;
others; seized, by the tyranny of guilt;
anger is the ocean that’s flowing inside;
destroying the character God built.

Everyone has a secret; they want to hide;
embarrassment; must be concealed;
when, in confidence, to a friend, they confide;
feeling pain when the secret’s revealed.

We’re always hurt most; by ones we love;
for they are the ones we’ve trusted;
the Master looks sadly, down from above;
seeing love’s ties become rusted.

Love is a tide that can rise; then fall;
sometimes it takes its course;
rejection; the unkindest cut of all;
bringing forth love’s divorce.

All lives are metaphors of life in the garden;
our love turned to pride; and then fell;
the unkindest cut; required God’s pardon;
redemption came through death’s hell.
