The Tyrannical Clock
The Tyrannical Clock
Life is directed by the sound of the metronome;
its constant beat of a tick and a tock;
clocks tell when to work; and when to go home;
we live in the tyranny of the clock.
Time led us down that winding garden path;
as birds mimicked the sound of tick-tock;
all awaited the results of the Master’s wrath;
while watching that tyrannical clock.
Time is the master, who has no face;
tho he often displays personality;
unlike the Master; time has no grace;
attempting to display neutrality.
A stitch in time may, indeed, save nine;
but who, among us, really knows;
many think time is neutral and benign;
while time’s influence still grows.
Throughout our life; time keeps ticking;
it never seems able to stop;
that it doesn’t change, seems rather fitting;
of this arrogant, tyrannical clock.
In time; time itself, will eventually wear down;
without the slightest change of expression;
although, sometimes, time acts like a clown;
time is never called to confession.
Time may speed up; or seem to stand still;
to us; it seems; time never stops;
time always marches to the Master’s will;
Lord, destroy the tyrannical clock
