The Right To Fail
The Right To Fail
What in the world is happening to us;
our world is becoming upside down;
few show concern enough to make a fuss;
while majorities vote for a clown.
Entitlement has reared its ugly head;
for success; none should be driven;
winning should be automatic, instead;
and all debts must become forgiven.
Soldiers can’t win; standing at parade rest;
the battle will evenually expire;
discoveries can’t be made, without tests;
scientists, might, just as well, retire.
Students won’t find success at their tasks;
with diplomas; they didn’t have to earn;
schools; becoming just venues for laughs;
where only a few students learn.
Success is a vacuous platitude, anymore;
there is no longer a victory cup;
no need for timing; or keeping score;
all succeed; just showing up.
It’s said, records are made to be broken;
today it’s merely a useless retort;
the records, themselves; become token;
when men play in a woman’s sport.
Success has become a meaningless word;
when violent criminals need no bail;
truth has willingly fallen on his sword;
none succeed; without a right to fail.
