The Richest Man
The Richest Man
Life is most oft deemed a competition;
between the least and the most;
a hopeless waste, and sheer repetition;
allowing the greatest to boast.
As a child; it was who had the best toys;
or, even, the highest grade;
who were the best looking girls and boys;
for the best; always had it made.
At graduation; who’s top of the class;
the best athletic on the teams;
who’s the most popular lad or lass;
who has the greatest dreams.
The list grows, and continues on and on;
ways of earning allowed some to cheat;
though competition would never be gone;
while the losers graciously accept defeat.
Wealth is always determined by the beholder;
all constantly reassess its role;
perception usually sharpens; as we grow older;
love, not money; is the wealth of the soul.
All of a sudden; everyone became victims;
each one looking to settle their score;
the least become rich, by the Master’s dictums:
and the rich; were not rich anymore.
Wealth is the tide that ebbs and flows;
money is the flotsom within it;
eternal love is the gift that always grows;
a rich man lacks wisdom to be in it.
