The Purpose Of Guilt

Everything, in life, happens for a reason;
nothing exists, without purpose;
even our guilt, must exist for a season;
while hidden neath the surface.

Guilt is the soul’s reaction to every sin;
no matter the circumstance;
a natural punishment; that begins, within;
even in a failed romance.

None of us have a completely clean slate;
the filth of sin stains every soul;
in a world, filled with dishonesty and hate;
guilt serves a most vital role.

We are permanently linked to God above;
in heaven; all truths shall unravel.
anticipating justice from the God of love;
we can almost hear the Lord’s gavel.

All that we’ve ever thought, said, or done;
shall bear witness against us, someday;
in heaven; there’s no place to hide or run;
for the prodigals; there’s no getaway.

Our guilt, we feel, we must keep hidden;
in virtual darkness of sin; most abide;
most, committed acts; by God; forbidden;
for those sins; the Master died.

Guilt makes us see through the eyes of others;
we are our own jury of our peers;
understanding what we’ve done to all brothers;
love replaces all guilt and fears.
