The One With A Full Plate

Due to experience; some ask my opinion;
on a wide variety of things;
most of them are beyond my dominion;
some; the province of kings.

I’m searching my mind; for words to say;
I feel I’ve grown useless with age;
some will approach me nearly each day;
seeking advice from a sage.

I’m not a sage; I am just an aging old man;
experience has taught me a lot;
each day, I simply do the best that I can;
but, the best; is what I am not.

Desperation tends to draw them all in;
as if I know; what they don’t know;
as years go by; confidence grows thin;
since each of us reap what we sow.

Although I am willing to give my advice;
to those with the stubbornness of a mule;
I would encourage them all to think twice;
before seeking advice from an old fool.

Though much wisdom may come from age;
knowledge is also an essential tool;
not everyone, who’s old, becomes a sage;
ignorance makes anyone a fool.

It’s said, wisdom comes, to those who wait;
and though such logic seems odd;
always trust the one; who has a full plate;
only put your faith in God.
