The Misery Of Pride
The Misery Of Pride
I remember a time I found a new friend;
one who always stood by my side;
upon his loyalty, I could always depend;
no one was more loyal than pride.
He lifted me up; when I became down;
placing me on a well deserved pedestal;
when others told me that I was a clown;
he assured me I was incredible.
Whenever I needed to make decisions;
for advice; to pride, I would turn;
pride possessed great future visions;
and from him, was much to learn.
Many others had attempted to warn me;
putting my pride to the test;
pride told me what my future could be;
and pride seemed to know best.
Pride separated me from good friends;
his mountain top became a throne;
he taught me means are justified by ends;
so I listened to my pride alone.
Pride is usually devoid of all empathy;
showing contempt for the weak;
friends of pride; have God as their enemy;
God befriends only the meek.
Pride turned my whole life into misery;
I recall when he first came to call;
pride was there; throughout my history;
it was pride, who caused man to fall.
