The Insignificance of Names
What’s in a name; what is it for;
is there a name so magnificant;
merely a word; hanging on a door;
a word, by itself, is insignificant.
Some talk of making a name for themselves;
as tho, a name brings them glory;
they might, just as well, call themselves elves;
since, no mere name tells their story.
Others, like to assume a vacuous title;
implying an elevated, special role;
a professor; above and beyond any rival;
mere nomenclature; their goal.
Judas succeeded in making a memorable name;
becoming a traitor to his Master;
forever he became associated with shame;
his very memory; a total disaster.
Saul was a man, obsessed with his mission;
on the Damascus Road; traveling;
causing misery and death was his decision;
such treachery leads to life; unraveling.
While on that road; Saul saw the Light;
and, was given the experience of death;
blindness brought the darkness of night;
the name of Saul breathed its last breath.
A picture of resurrection; death was Saul;
for his name had been living a lie;
a new life became the legacy of Paul;
only his evil was required to die.
And, so it is; with those seeking a name;
it’s clear; only the Master knows;
nomenclature merely attaches to blame;
it’s only through love; man grows.
