The Harder They Fall

The Harder They Fall

The bigger they are; the harder they fall;
a message, I was given; when young;
small, for my age, less than five feet tall;
and the bullying had scarcely begun.

I quickly learned the message was mistaken;
size, in fighting; still critical;
bullies, I learned, were callous and craven;
but, scarcely were they analytical.

Other things, in life, not different at all;
such, as our plans; and expectations;
the bigger they are; the harder the fall;
our lives are full of miscalculations.

We begin; wanting to be all we can be;
our expectations, couldn’t be greater;
instead of dreaming; I’ve got to be me;
following God’s will is much safer.

Our greatest dreams often thwart God’s will;
for we lack his gifts; to succeed;
sharing God’s love requires consummate skill;
its supply is always in need.

Pride demands that we be the best of all;
wanting to climb the mountain, alone;
but, pride, very often, preceeds our fall;
none; but God, can ascend to the throne.

The message of the talents; tells the story;
we’re each given special talents, to use;
when we ignore our gifts; to seek our glory;
those talents we’re given; we’ll lose.
