The Golden Rule

Do unto others; as you’d have them to do;
once described as the golden rule;
but times have changed; now; a different view;
kindness is the act of a fool.

Everyone is seeking to gain an advantage;
success is all about winning;
our lives are difficult enough to manage;
we must have a new beginning,

Many start life with a chip on their shoulder;
often treating friends as their enemy;
knowledge begets wisdom; as we grow older;
enemies are simply friends, to be.

We often mistake possibility as probability;
while opportunities are simply discarded;
although we blame others; it is our culpability;
since fools are usually outsmarted.

Most people become intent on receiving;
grabbing all they can get;
living by their wits; often deceiving;
then dying in solemn regret.

A precious few have learned how to live;
the vast majority never understand;
those who love God; learn how to give;
for, giving is love’s demand.

Tho those with gold, may make the rules;
pride often comes, before the fall;
only a wise man can learn from the fools;
but the fools, never learn at all.
