The Five Illusions

The Five Illusions

We look at life’s beautiful illusions;
many wonders constantly pass by;
but lest we draw false conclusions;
the hand is far quicker than the eye.

And sound gives us no greater measure;
for sometimes we don’t hear too well:
though sound’s music gives us pleasure;
its truthfullness, we can’t always tell.

But what about the sense of touch;
doesn’t its feel give us proof?
I wouldn’t count on it too much;
for thoughts make “feel” seem aloof.

We may think we smell something rotten;
but don’t count on that too much;
for soon that smell is forgotten:
and is no more dependable than touch.

What about taste; I love a  juicy steak;
its nothing but a tasty illusion;
a choice you’ve told the mind to make;
its thought that draws every conclusion.

What sense can be made of these senses;
can they not be reality’s test?
If not; then from what other lenses,
does the truth of reality rest.

Thought is the only thing that matters;
the senses all report to the mind;
while we may see the food on platters;
its by thought that all is defined.

So we thought that we saw something;
but weren’t really quite sure;
what we thought was a dumpling,
was really smelly manure.

Its a good thing we didn’t taste it;
or even touch it as well;
but it seems a little more unfit;
to define all reality by smell.
