The Envy Of Pride

Life is engulfed in endless competition;
proving how our talents compare;
besting all others has become our mission;
as though others don’t care.

Yet, strangly enough, all others do care;
becoming puffed up with envy, inside;
success draws others to wish they’d be there;
for such is the envy of pride.

Envy is the lusting for another’s success;
wanting to take another’s place;
always believing that you are the best;
envy lacks modesty and taste.

Why do so many of us have envy within;
when the meek will inherit the earth;
envy is where all of our pride shall begin;
most of us were envious from birth.

Envy suggests a foundation for competition;
our pride demands we succeed;
failure is the cost of reckless ambition;
the prize exceeded our need.

Tho we say pride always comes before the fall;
envy is the temptation pushing us down;
none of us can walk; before we first crawl;
if we did so; we’d walk like a clown.

Envy is the man; seeking God’s throne;
in the garden of Eden, above;
a special place for the Master, alone;
Envy is jealousy; replacing love.
