The Devil Within
There is a great evil among us;
attempting to conquer and win;
with a tireless will to become us;
for he is the devil within.
We are keenly aware that he exists;
tho his whispers; we barely hear;
an annoying mosquito; he persists;
me thinking he’s nothing to fear.
Tho I believe I’m aware of the truth;
he invades my space with his lies;
I try to ignore him; and remain aloof;
he suggests we just compromise.
I often wonder just how he got there;
God, in heaven; loves me so much;
he’s always nearby; his love to share;
how did I get so out of touch?
I think, perhaps, that he’s always been;
we once met in the garden above;
where he first planted temptations of sin;
seeking to destroy my Master’s love.
Together, we were cast from heaven above;
into the devil’s kingdom of hate;
tho, I long to return to God’s garden of love;
the devil, within, says, it’s too late.
There is a great evil among us;
attempting to conquer and win;
with a tireless will to become us;
for he is the devil within.
