The Death Of A Life

Death has such an ominous sound;
it ushers in fear and dread;
affecting everything; all around;
all things, thought and said.

Many think only the living can die;
but, memories also die too;
many spend a lifetime; asking why;
as their life passes in revue.

Some consider only death of a life;
but marriages can die; as well;
a separation of husband and wife;
can make life a living hell.

Memories have a life of their own;
though some we’d like to forget;
when we are older; and all alone;
we recall what we most regret.

In death; the body is buried and gone;
but memories stubbornly remain;
the most toxic memories still live on;
it’s enough to drive one insane.

Everything that we shall ever own;
remains embedded in our mind;
whether a pet; or a vacation home;
no memory is left behind.

Memories serve a unique role;
one that’s always protected;
memories are a part of the soul;
and memories are resurrected.
