The Battle For Recognition

Why has life become a fight for attention;
a struggle to become recognized?
The world, itself, is awash in contention;
its losers; often despised.

All of us are challenged to be the very best;
head and shoulders above all others;
we feel as tho life is some sort of quest;
one-upping all sisters and brothers.

We seek out divisions over everything;
a classic duel; to prove who’s best;
which ones of us will claim a brass ring;
which ones are up for the test?

There’s an on-going battle for recognition;
tho success is merely a facade;
many consider it their lifetime mission;
claiming greatness; in the eyes of God.

Success is the mountain; most seek to climb;
seeking recognition; from one and all;
often great heights; make one feel divine;
but, pride, causes most to fall.

Those most successful in all that they do;
oppress the weak and the poor;
revealing the contempt, that they imbue;
but, it’s God who’s keeping score.

Most of the failures; are poor and weak;
only God has the eyes to see;
the Master has always favored the meek;
which one would you rather be?
