The Badge Of Humility

A smart man, who, when asked, how he was doing;
replied, “Better than I deserve.”
Taking into account, how his wealth was accruing;
I was taken aback by his nerve.

Strangely, I took it as a unique form of boasting;
indicative of a prideful form of humility;
but, was it his lack of pride, he was toasting;
or, perhaps a form of professed nobility.

I know that I may sound unnecessarily cruel;
does a true child of God feel undeserving;
to the Master, such, are thoughts of a fool;
His love to His children is unswerving;

Would you, for a moment, think that of your child;
that they really deserve less than you’ve given;
even in the moments, they disappoint or go wild;
aren’t you really still delighted they’re livin?

Pride is the energy that grows deep within;
it starts with the tiniest of seeds;
feelings of inadequacy, may cause it to begin;
to fulfill our deepest of needs.

Humility isn’t a badge, or a hat to be worn;
displaying your lack of self worth;
it’s driven by understanding, not scorn;
we’re merely flawed children of earth.

The Master admonished us to judge no one;
and granted us not a single exception.
We won’t wear “humility,” when life is done;
and God’s love will be our reception.
