Still Waters

Still waters are considered peacefulness;
becoming relaxed and profound;
thought, a place to be soothed and blessed;
without troubles or stresses around.

But troubles are what this world’s about;
it’s not some kind of peaceful resort;
in this regard, if you have any doubt;
sorrows will cut your vacation short.

Instead, it’s troubled waters we’ve come for;
they’ll surround your peace, like a moat;
waves of sorrows, simply wash ashore;
and evil, within them, seems to gloat.

The abundance of such evil comes unexpected;
after all, we’re meant to love each other;
thinking, by the Master, we’re all protected;
we don’t expect assaults from our brother.

But evil comes in all shapes and sizes;
and we quickly need to discern;
easily burned, making hasty surmises;
we find we were sent here to learn.

Life’s river is a raging torrent of water;
with lessons to be learned, everywhere;
leaving many, like lambs to the slaughter;
at the mercy of those who don’t care.

In the distance we’ve a glimpse of a garden;
a meadow to join sons and daughters;
thru our sorrows, we gained God’s pardon;
and we’ll all meet, beside the still waters.
