Why must we look over our shoulder;
looking back at yesterday?
We’ve all become a little bit older;
and now has become today.

Why is there an allure to the past;
when Summer’s already arrived;
sorrows and failures never last;
and, so far, we have survived.

Why linger over yesterday’s chapter;
instead, we all must engage;
bringing love, joy and laughter;
as life turns the very next page.

The past is a vast empty wilderness;
nothing remains; to visit, there;
why hold on to life’s bitterness;
when others have gone on elsewhere.

Time and space are not our purpose;
we are here for a specific reason;
though that reason has yet to surface;
it will, in the appropriate season.

So we must travel, on down the road;
neither looking ahead or behind;
continue carrying our appointed load;
until our purpose is defined.

We can continually go on debating;
about what’s at the rainbow’s end;
but, our purpose in life may be waiting;
around the very next bend.
