Pride

Pride

Early on we’re taught to be proud;
to have pride in all that we do;
to the gods of confidence we bowed;
self confidence: a trait to imbue.

Determined to become gods on our own;
we honed our skills, and self trust;
developing faith in ourselves, alone;
our faith in God grew to rust.

Wisdom, we thought, was our guide;
we would always do the best for all;
that we had all the answers; implied;
a hint we were prepared for a fall.

Pride is an unworthy companion;
it oft delivers an unhealty opinion;
critiques; all banned to a canyon;
till it finally declares its dominion.

We must only have pride for our King;
and faithfully serve the Master of all;
the One Creator of Everything;
for that is our trust; our call.

We began life as a soul; a mere child;
not knowing what pride would bring.
Wisdom never befits growing wild;
and pride is unworthy to serve as king;

I started out a child of wrath;
unworthy; and all alone.
Pride started me on my path;
but Love shall lead me home.
