Pride Isn’t Contagious

We watch, as the actor, on stage, takes a bow;
often wishing we could take his place;
most covet success; and they want it now;
though pride is considered disgrace.

Pride isn’t contagious; it’s built within;
confined like a tight fitting sweater;
we want no part of another’s chagrin;
we covet ourselves becoming better.

Sometimes we feel our pride vicariously;
seeing others achievements as our own;
it still may be considered living precariously;
taking someone else’s pride on loan.

Pride is our love and faith in the Master;
the pride of our Father’s love;
too much pride of ourself, leads to disaster;
arrogance and pride, go hand and glove.

Pride is much like inflating a balloon;
only humility can make it stop;
one who thinks otherwise is a baffoon;
increasing arrogance makes it pop.

Pride is faith and trust in the Master;
confidence in a supernatural being;
pride becomes arrogance in a pastor;
when man’s failures become seen.

Pride is the seed of evil, within us planted;
reactions often become outrageous;
some worry pride may even be transplanted;
don’t worry; pride isn’t contagious.
