Persistence
When you’ve gone where others failed;
and still not known success.
Your useless anecdotes, regaled;
still helpless to impress.
Tears flooding down your face;
and failure clear in view;
appraising your own disgrace;
attempting something new.
The footsteps you’ve been following;
have, each one, run out;
and the pity you’re in; wallowing;
has totally replaced your doubt.
It seems there is no place to go;
your future seems so stark;
like trudging thru a blinding snow;
in winter; after dark.
While others might give up;
that isn’t who you are;
you can’t drink from failure’s cup;
that wouldn’t get you far.
You may not have success today;
but tomorrow’s another story;
with determination guiding the way;
you’ll find the way to glory.
Find yourself where you began.
What is left you; I implore?
Do the very best you can;
and then take one step more.
