Opportunity Knocks

Opportunity knocks virtually every day;
there’s no lack of people in pain;
someone in stress, is walking your way;
a few kind words will cause gain.

Most regard opportunity as a personal thing;
lifting up your stature, or a monetary award;
the greatest opportunity is the love we bring;
stronger and greater than the saber or sword.

Every face we see; conceals its sorrow;
a mere kind word; can lift them high;
allow that they picture a better tomorrow;
most are too proud to cry.

Why do we bury all our sorrows and pain;
very deeply within our soul?
Our burdens and losses can all turn to gain;
hidden; they become out of control.

And so we each meet strangers on the street;
ones who need our love and compassion;
and our first response is to socially retreat;
all our tears and love, we ration.

Opportunity lurks behind each door we open;
our minds still remain closed, instead;
responses we give to the hurting; mere token;
often, we just walk on ahead.

Someone else is around; always hovering, nearby;
He is most displeased; almost mocking;
for the Master, who hears us each time we cry;
whispers, “Can’t you hear someone knocking?”
