Nothing Is Free

Everything, in life, comes with a cost;
for nothing in life is free;
something’s gained; something’s lost;
that’s how things happen to be.

I’ve heard it said, the best things are free;
obviously refering to love and affection;
and though it seems that’s true; you see;
we all, potentially, face rejection.

All of life, is one big tug of war;
we give; in order that we get;
tho getting, is what most live for;
I’ve not seen a free lunch yet.

If all were given, according to desire;
leaving it up to others to earn;
very shortly, all the others would retire;
saying, “Now, my friend it’s your turn.”

Many are those who seek only security;
they’re happy, just staying alive;
but, to those with insight and maturity;
freedom’s too great a cost, to survive.

So nothing, having value, will ever be free;
we pay for it all; from our day of birth;
all gifts, are wrapped, and under the tree.
If it cost nothing; that’s what it’s worth.

The Master came; salvation to bring;
the cross, He bore, wasn’t free;
His sacrifice was everything;
for, nothing in life is free;
