Nostalgia

Nostalgia

Why do so many just yearn for the past;
becoming that not so secret longing?
It seems, to many, that good times never last;
is nostalgia our lack of belonging.

What is that attachment to home sweet home;
permanently etched in our mind;
especially in old age; when we’re left alone;
why are good memories unkind?

Life was created as a day-to-day reality;
we’re not meant to look back or ahead;
nostalgia makes us prisoners to sentimentality;
with reality left hanging by a thread.

First, we focus on all the chances we’ve had;
saddened by the choices we’ve made;
on our best days; even thoughts make us sad;
as, before us, they march on parade.

On days that begin with happiness and bliss;
our thoughts turn back the years;
remembering a romantic embrace and kiss;
nostalgia brings on the tears.

Those things and people we loved in the past;
have, in one way or another, moved on;
most wondrous events aren’t meant to last;
someday it all will be gone.

Nostalgia is simply a time and a season;
it wasn’t meant to last forever;
only in heaven will you find the reason;
love will bring us all together.
