No Enemies To Love
To love your enemies; seems noble, to some;
but it all depends on your perspective;
to have no enemies; seems more noble to one;
God is the only one who is objective.
When the Master told us to love our neighbor;
he didn’t just refer to those living next door;
God gave it, as a command; not merely a favor;
referring to those, whom you most abhor;
We spend our lifetimes; constantly dividing;
rich and poor; skinny and fat;
the more labels; the more trouble deciding;
Independent, Republican, or Democrat.
Nearly every school has many an athletic team;
competition; replacing traditional learning;
many times their competition goes to extremes;
it’s scholarship money; they’re earning.
Professional teams make us even more divided;
the competition becomes like a war;
those who watch games; become excited;
yelling for a team they’re rooting for;
People compete in business competition;
always attempting to curry favor;
all of it adding to life’s constant division;
everyone, we meet, is our neighbor.
We are God’s children; given his grace;
and he looks upon us, from above
this world will be a much better place;
when we have no enemies to love.
