Nighttime Lover
Nighttime Lover
In the midst of a lonely, moonlight sky;
in vain; I long for another;
in my mind, I can feel her pass by;
my imaginary nighttime lover.
I can never find her; in the middle of the day;
her energies are in another place;
nighttime dreams, send her floating my way;
enjoying an unending embrace.
She is on my mind, nearly all day long;
an illusion, only I can see;
her eyes are stars; and her voice, a song;
unfortunately, she cannot see me.
Throughout the day; her face will appear;
intermittently; through droplets of rain;
I can almost feel loving arms draw near;
tho my wishes and hopes are in vain.
Near the end of the day; her image returns;
an illusion; I can feel; but not see;
my love is real and my passion burns;
but, again; she cannot see me.
My nighttime lover; returns in my dream;
love streaming from her eyes;
we passionately kiss on the banks of a stream;
and I awaken; to my surprise.
In the new dawn; I find myself in bed;
wondering where my love has gone;
my lover is really my illusion, instead;
tho my love for her lives on.
