My Worst Enemy
We often spend time; trying to make friends;
love is usually found in those energies;
often, in the process; a word or deed offends;
and, suddenly; we’ve made enemies.
Tho we are diligent to find some new friends;
things don’t always happen, how we planned;
a few become militant seeking their own ends;
like staying in the sun too long to get tanned.
Enemies come naturally; like a picnic, with flies;
they seek your defeat; at every turn;
they are those people; you love to despise;
your vitriol they constantly earn.
Some of our enemies are friends who turned sour;
unfortunate circumstances played a role;
other enemies are ones seeking great power;
and we stand in the way of their goal.
Some people are neither enemy; nor a friend;
everyday circumstance determines their role;
when their enemies attack you; they will defend;
for there’s none less reliable than a fickle soul.
All in all; most of our enemies stay the same;
while many friends tend to come and go;
enemies oft declare, you’re the one to blame;
and they never tire of letting you know.
Beware of all enemies; both the least; and first;
they keep you from being all you can be.
Pray that faith delivers you from the worst.
For my very worst enemy is me.
