My One True Love

I know my love followed me into this life;
the woman who’s destined for me;
she is the woman God chose as my wife;
to be with, throughout all eternity.

When I first met her; she was born too late;
so our parents kept us apart;
her destiny; thwarted; a victim of fate;
tho we shared the same heart.

We each became married to a substitute love;
both of us married too fast;;
we lacked the sanction of our Lord, above;
neither marriage would last.

My first wife gave me, my only two sons;
then destined; I would bear no more;
determined she would keep my only ones;
she divorced me; closing the door.

My second wife was a talented artist;
we seemed a more perfect pair;
we never questioned who was smartest;
we each had a role to share.

Together we began a challenging task;
building a life of moderate success;
corruption of others; made it not last;
bankruptcy brought constant duress.

The Master recalled my second wife;
making me feel cold, inside;
I’d thought she was the love of my life;
and now, my love had died.

In the Autumn of life; I met someone new;
at a time; I thought love was gone;
I stared into eyes; seeing straight through;
and I could see that love lived on.

God created all soulmates to come in pairs;
he planted them together in the garden;
mismatched lovers may have their affairs;
true love is God’s ultimate pardon.
