Lonely Eyes
Lonely Eyes
Before me; I beheld a vacuous face;
whose eyes were sad and lonely;
its smile appeared, all out of place;
diminished to mere shadow, only.
Seeing that face, made me feel sad;
wrinkled and damp with tears;
imagining he was someone’s dad;
a sorrowful face; full of years.
I imagined his face; smiling and jolly;
as a child, on Christmas morn;
to see such a child; now melancholy;
the strings of my heart were torn.
I couldn’t imagine what fate had befallen;
to give a face such sad, lonely eyes;
that entire face had become crestfallen;
more so, than any might surmise.
Knowing everything has purpose and reason;
I whispered a prayer to God above;
the Master replied that despair was a season;
and, all are lonely without love.
Then the Master whispered wisdom to me;
in a voice, devoid of sound;
all must face all the things that must be;
love, itself, is heaven bound.
I saw what the lonely eyes couldn’t see;
in retrospect, by the Master, driven;
those lonely eyes; in reality, were me;
love can never be taken; only given.
