Landmarks Of Memory
I turned down a street; where I’d been long ago;
many memories flooded my mind;
memories are designed to teach us to grow;
healing us where we were blind.
I passed the house of a best friend; I once had;
only a block from my home as a child;
that great friendship lost, made me feel sad;
lamenting we should have reconciled.
How can houses and street corners have a link;
taking me back to a long time ago?
Could it be that all our thoughts are in sync,
and differences help us to grow?
In the essence of time, enemies become a friend;
that’s what we’re all meant to be;
peace and serenity are destined to decend;
once all have the eyes, to see.
Division was only meant to be for a season;
everything was created by purpose;
the growth of love was the link; the reason;
we’re all one; under the surface.
I drove down another street from my past;
recalling where a girl used to be;
a love, I felt for her; wasn’t destined to last;
for she had never thought of me.
I saw many landmarks during my drive;
linking my present to my past;
that presence, I once had; couldn’t survive;
for only love was meant to last.
