It Wasn’t Meant To Be
When I was a child; I had many a dream;
about what my future would be;
most of our lives are not what they seem;
very few believed in a destiny.
As the years slowly passed; things changed;
pavement and buildings replaced the trees;
the entire skyline became totally rearranged;
a flow of destiny brought us to our knees.
Surely our lives meant more than mere trees;
after all; we were made in God’s image;
thoughts of our future, brought us to our knees;
destiny had great plans for God’s lineage.
I had dreams of becoming an athlete; a star;
but destiny had a surprise for me;
being short and skinny, couldn’t take me far;
it just wasn’t meant to be.
It seemed I wasn’t the only one to dream;
many of us dreamed, night and day;
there was no dream too lofty or extreme;
none were destined to come my way.
I even once dreamed of becoming a pastor;
a dream that I swiftly shed;
writing could make me richer; faster;
so I became a poet, instead.
When I was a child; I had many a dream;
about great plans; God had for me;
few things, in life, are what they seem;
it just wasn’t meant to be.
